Cinemalaya X Day 3 - K'Na the Dreamweaver

K’na, The Dreamweaver

abaca strands given away as you exit the movie house

Highlights:

- The Musical score is divine.  T'boli beats intertwine with dialogues, succinctly punctuating the looming tension
- Cinematography treats Lake Sebu as a major character of the film.  Some shots could very well be a Department of Tourism ad
- Superb costume design complimented with steady camera work literally adds a colorful dimension to lengthy shots
- Mara Lopez was believable. Commendable restrained portrayal from Nonie Buencamino
- Kudos to the actors for never waning emotions despite the need to speak in a different language throughout the film
- The dilemma is more than choosing peace in her warring clan over love, as the film synopsis suggests.  The geography of the land and the history of the clans were laid out very well in the script adding another dimension to a much more complex conflict.

Lowlights:
- Waste of Alex Medina's talent.  I think he spoke all of 1 word - "Stop!".
- Resolution of love triangle was disappointing.  I am referring to how it was executed rather than the resolution provided, as I believe saving someone's life in that culture really mean a lot.  It was just frustrating that the conflict suffered by K'Na was resolved haphazardly so the wedding pushes through

Rating: 8/10
