CINEMALAYA X: A Decade of Connecting Dimensions

Like last year, we committed to watching Cinemalaya this year.  As always, the line-up of feature films is very intriguing.  This year, more and more superstars are going indie.   Nora Aunor, Richard Gomez, Dennis Trillo, even Ai-Ai delas Alas are all in.   Of course indie-loyals have a  movie or two - the Buencaminos, Mara Lopez, Alex Medina.

We are most excited about how Philippine indie have become in the past X years.  We wonder who watches Cinemalaya this year.

Here are the list of entries in Cinemelaya X.

New Breed category
1. #Y by Gino Santos
2. 1st ko si 3rd
3. Bwaya by Francis X.E. Pasion
4. Dagitab (Sparks) by Giancarlo Lauro C. Abrahan V
5. Dayang Asu by Bor Ocampo
6. K’na, The Dreamweaver by Ida Anita Del Mundo
7. Mariquina by Milo Sogueco
8. Ronda by Nick Olanka
9. Separados by GB Sampedro
10. Sundalong Kanin by Denise O'Hara/Janice O'Hara

Directors Showcase
1. Asintado by Louie Ignacio
2. Hari ng Tondo by Carlos Siguion-Reyna/Bibeth Orteza
3. Hustisya by Joel Lamangan
4. The Janitor by Michael Tuviera
5. Kasal by Joselito Altarejos

We are most excited about:
1st ko si 3rd - Nova Villa and Freddie Webb reunion (Ines and Jimmy Capistrano, remember?) is a dream come true for many of us who grew up in the 80's Chicks-to-Chicks.   I probably would not care if it is a good film, you watch this for sentimentality reasons

Hustisya - Ate Guy again in a Lamangan film.  Enough said.

Mariquina - the plot, the script by last year's best director and best film winner

Hari ng Tondo - we miss CSR.  It's been a while that I could not remember his last film.  So a must see for CSR fans and even non-fans
