Ang Ombudsman pala sa Tagalog ay Tanodbayan. Ang ombudsman ay responsable sa pag-investigate at pag-prosecute ng mga opisyal ng gobyerno "who are allegedly guilty of crimes."
The Offices of the Ombudsman independently monitor the government and all three of its branches. The Ombudsman is also responsible for receiving complaints from citizens, organizations, corporations, etc from the country. The Ombudsman usually prosecutes officials who are allegedly involved in acts of graft and corruption.
Ang ombudsman ngayon ay si Ma. Merceditas Gutierrez. Na-appoint siya ni GMA nung Dec, 2005. Kaklase siya ni dating First Gentleman Mike Arroyo sa law school. At siya ang kauna-unahang babaeng na-appoint na ombudsman.
Nung March 2009, ang dating Senate President Jovito Salonga at ibang civil society groups ay nag-file ng impeachment charges sa Kongreso laban kay Gutierrez, alleging that she mishandled cases. The complaint was later dismissed.
