Panitensya ng Mga Bumbay

Meron din palang penitensya ang mga bumbay. Nung January ay na shock ako nung na observe ko ang Thaipusam dito sa Little India sa Singapore. Thaipusam celebrates the birthday of the Hindu deity Subramaniam. On this occasion, Hindus show the sincerity of their faith. It is a time for making and fulfilling vows. Devotees pray for divine help and make vows. When their prayers are answered, they fulfil their vows. To do this, a devotee would pierce his cheeks, tongue, face or other suitable body parts with sharp objects. Then, he goes on a 4km journey of faith-- four km-- na may barbeque na nakatusok sa nguso mo (see above) at mga ponkan na nakasabit sa likod (see below)-- imagine!


Itong dalawa, may mga nakasabit (i.e. sa pamamagitan ng pakong bakya) na ponkan/lime sa likod nya. Lime means protection daw ng mga Dyos sa mga bumbay.



This is very common, may metallic float na naka-stitch sa katawan nila. There are hundreds of others doing the same thing at nagpaparada sila, yung iba nagsasayaw pa.

Kakaibang penitensya, but katulad ng mga pinapako sa krus sa Pampanga, salvation din ang goal nila.
